Owl butterflies get their name from large spots on their wings that look like an owl when they’re opened up. Another interesting thing about them is that they also have the appearance of a snake if you look at their wing from another angle. Nature is pretty neat. ⁣ ⁣ The second image isn’t mine, as I wasn’t able to shoot one today sitting still with its wings spread for a good shot. Sometimes a project doesn’t work out the way you hoped it would, but I constantly need to remind myself that done can be better than perfect. I have to relinquish my hopes and dreams and aspirations and accept the fact that I’m only as good as I am right now and be ok with that. I could spend hours or days or weeks trying to craft an image into the way I’d like it to be, but there comes a point that I recognize that I lack the experience or understanding or perhaps even the tools or the software to manipulate things the way I see them in my mind’s eye. ⁣ ⁣ Anyways, I don’t think many people read these and I think maybe offering insight to my posts is just something I do for myself to try and make sense of this silly thing that I feel the necessity to do. ⁣ ⁣ That all being said, here’s a picture of a toy that I shot with the intention of making look like it was a scene from a movie in space. I feel like I missed the mark, but it’s still a pretty cool image of the action figure. Swipe over to see some of the items I used for the shot, if you’re interested. ⁣ ⁣ I used some aquarium rocks, black sand, and lava rocks to add some depth to the image and used a photo of space for the background. I used a single godox vl150 with a projector lens for the lighting. ⁣ ⁣ Camera was the Olympus OM-1 with the M.Zuiko 60mm macro lens. Funny story. Went camping this past weekend and within minutes of arriving, I found this super awesome mushroom that I was so excited to take some pictures of. ⁣ ⁣ Started setting up camp and unpacking things only to find out a few minutes later that my daughter had broken it apart because “she wanted to see what was inside”. I’m still upset about it now haha. ⁣ ⁣ I found another pretty cool mushroom, shown in the first picture, but it was growing sideways in an L shape and nearly upside down in the dirt. It was the next best one I found, so I staged it in a stump and added some light painting for a glowing effect. ⁣ ⁣ Swipe over to see the other mushroom that was sadly destroyed. The last image is a 10 shot stack of the first mushroom. Meet Teensie. My daughter’s Phiddipus Regius (Regal) jumping spider. I’ve wanted some nice shots at Monument Valley for years. Visited Clint’s Reptile Room recently. It was a pretty unique experience. Very interactive and informative. Clint is a mastermind of knowledge regarding insects and reptiles. ⁣ ⁣ Much like his YouTube channel, he is happy and excited to share information about all the critters they have. I sincerely appreciate his love and enthusiasm for these animals. ⁣ ⁣ You can touch and hold lizards and snakes and walk around with them. They did a live show with a snapping turtle and a tegu. Tried to shoot the lunar eclipse last night. The clouds had other plans. Caught the very end of it with enough clarity to snag a photo. Congrats to all you photographers out there that got great shots of it. A lot of people don’t even realize how complicated this shot is. The moon was super dark, moving, and 238,000 miles away. In order to get a shot without an awful ton of noise, you have to squeeze in the longest exposure possible, but anything faster than 1/100 of a second and you’ll get noticeable motion blur. Went to Disney World last week and as you might expect from me, I was probably more interested in finding critters than amusement rides.
